"Only a thimble," said Alice sadly.

"Only a thimble," said Alice sadly.
"Give it to me," said the Dodo.
They all gathered around in a circle.
The Dodo took the thimble and gave it back to Alice.
"Please accept this beautiful thimble as your prize," he said seriously.
Everyone cheered loudly.
Alice thought the whole thing was very silly.
But everyone looked so serious about it.
So she just bowed politely and took the thimble.
Next, they all ate their candies.
The big birds complained they couldn't taste such small candies.
The small birds choked on candies that were too big for them.
But finally, everyone finished eating.
They sat down in a circle again.
"Now tell us a story," they all said to the Mouse.
"You promised to tell me your story," Alice reminded him.
"And you said you would explain why you hate cats and dogs."
"My story is a long and sad one," sighed the Mouse.
"It is a long tail, certainly," said Alice, looking at his tail.
"But why do you call it sad?"
She was confused because she was thinking about his actual tail.
The Mouse began to tell his sad story.
But Alice kept staring at his long tail.
In her mind, she imagined the words of his story shaped like a tail.
