그리폰과의 만남 (Meeting the Gryphon)

"Everyone says 'Come on!' here," thought Alice.

"I have never been ordered around so much!"

They walked until they saw the Mock Turtle.

It sat on a rock, looking very sad.

Alice could hear it crying.

"What is wrong with him?" she asked.

"Nothing is wrong," said the Gryphon.

"It is all in his head."

"Come on!"

They went up to the Mock Turtle.

It looked at them with big, tearful eyes.

"This young lady wants to hear your story," said the Gryphon.

"I will tell her," said the Mock Turtle.

"Sit down, and don't speak until I finish."

They sat down.

Nobody spoke for a long time.

"How can he finish if he doesn't begin?" thought Alice.

"Once," said the Mock Turtle with a sigh, "I was a real Turtle."

"Once I was a real Turtle."

Then he was silent for a long time.

He kept sobbing.

Alice almost said, "Thank you for your story."

But she waited.

"When we were young, we went to school in the sea," he said.

"The teacher was an old Turtle."

"We called him Tortoise."

"Why did you call him that?" asked Alice.

"Because he taught us!" said the Mock Turtle angrily.

"You are very dull!"
